CYCLOMIX® MULTI AND AIRMIX®, guaranteed quality and durability that will stand the test of time for wind turbines.
Wind power plants have to withstand extreme weather conditions for up to 20 years. MTA, Metalltechnologie Aurich GmbH, a Germany company that produces aluminum nacelle casings, chose a KREMLIN REXSON CYCLOMIX™ system to apply the surface treatment for the casings which consists of a special high viscosity two-component material.
Given its particularly thick consistency, its application presented an especially difficult challenge which was further complicated by the fact that the paint supply had to be located 60 meters from the spraying booth.
Even thought the paint supply is located 60m from the spraying booth, the 2K unit has worked faultlessly since it was installed in February 2008. It consists of an electronic proportioning and mixing machine (CYCLOMIX™ MULTI) whose control cabinet can handle six base and catalyst materials in total and process three products independently.
The high viscosity products to be sprayed are transferred into the mixing unit, and then to the application spray gun (AIRMIX®) using a FLOWMAX® pump that does not require cleaning. The original (patented) bellows system used for fluid suction provides a completely leak-free operation; thus, preventing product leaks.
This configuration of the system makes it possible to change the type of paint to be sprayed in 30 to 40 seconds with very little product wasted.
After four months in operation, the spraying booth is spotless due to the fact that the transfer efficiency has been increased up to 80%.
For Ralf Mühlenbrock, Production Manager at MTA, the unique demands of his process obviously represented a special challenge for KREMLIN REXSON. The AIRMIX®, transfer efficiency has considerably increased compared to the old system, and the paint spray can be perfectly controlled and easily adjusted. The result is an excellent finish.
Following a brief period to adjust the parameters, Ralf Mühlenbrock was able to launch series production as planned producing 250 nacelles a year at the production center in Aurich. As for the objective of guaranteeing the coating a service life of 20 years, the Production Manager is convinced that this will be achieved: "We have combined two elements that have both proven their worth - the right product and the right spraying technology."
